I was born into a home with a painting dad, and I believe that includes one great advantage if you want to become an artist yourself: you approach art with an open mind, it comes natural. There are of course negatives too, mainly if you find your dad's art to be a yoke upon your shoulders, feeling like you are bound to walk in his footsteps and never find your own trail. I did find my own trail, and to that path I brought a foundation of knowledge I didn't know I had, coming to me quietly as I watched my dad paint.
What I paint is not a photograph. It is my interpretation of the world around us, and what you see might not be what I see when looking at the finished painting. My aim is to make something that comes back, over and over, with new thoughts coming to mind every time we see it. That is one reason I paint, to entertain the mind, to tickle the funnybone, to supply a door into another world.
Painting is not a one way street, it's a process where the colors take over at times, where the canvas and the started painting lead you in ways you did not plan. It is also an adventure and very satisfying when it comes out beyond your own expectations.
I am Bo Hammar, and I welcome you to peek into my world.
